Week 39

 Things are kind of winding down in my welding class. Students are finishing up their projects for the competition but I don’t have a project in the competition so I’m just working on my last name sign. 

My motorcycle is still in the shop for a repair but I have been able to practice riding my dad’s a couple times this week. Once I just rode around the church parking lot (video below) but the other time we rode all around the neighborhood so that was good practice. My dad followed along on my mom’s smaller motorcycle so he could help if I ran into any problems. 

I had a math quiz this week. I also did a couple of math lessons.

We learned about Lesotho and the Ivory Coast as part of our Geography this week. Lesotho actually has a ski resort, which was interesting to learn. You don’t really think of ski resorts in Africa! 

Filled out a few job applications this week and needed a profile pic.

Week 38

 This week I took the written test to get my motorcycle permit. I missed four and as long as you miss five or fewer you pass, so I passed! Now I have my permit and can practice on my motorcycle and ride it to school.

For my science assignment I did an experiment with my steamboat to see which part of it is responsible for making the sound. Most of the sound comes from the top of the metal boiler which is thinner metal so it vibrates more. I tested this by putting a bit of salt on it and I could see the salt bouncing up and down. 

In geography we learned more about Sierra Leone. I thought it was interesting that it is the roundest country (by shape) on earth. It shares borders with Guinea. It’s one of the countries that was founded by freed American slaves. 

Week 37

In Math I had an exam. I missed three but two of them were just because I forgot the units on the answers, so at least I know how to do them.

I got to go to Moab with my friend Heber to go mountain biking. On Saturday we also got to swim in the river which was nice because it was super hot. I used my GoPro to record some footage of us mountain biking so that will be fun to work on. 

In welding this week Mr. Money had me work on frames that hold up banners so they can have them at the welding expo.
