Week 32

Science: learned about static electricity and the different parts of atoms. In an atom the nucleus has protons and neutrons, then around the outside there is the electrons. I did an experiment/activity with balloons and static electricity.

History: this week I learned about the civil war. Something I never knew was that the US actually split into two different places which I thought was interesting. Also learned how the north won and that it was kind of inevitable because the north had a much bigger army and they had a lot more resources.

Math: I had an exam. I also learned about trinomial and that they are just polynomials but with three terms. And I learned how to factor them.

Drone: Canvas class. Finished and turned in another drone video for my class.

Sports conditioning: wrote a paper. Also used an app to track my bike rides this week.

Welding: Did a tool identification quiz. I had to retake it because he wanted us to get close to 100. My final time I got a 97% so I figure that is good enough.

Language arts: This week I just had to write a paper for my sports conditioning class. I did one Writing Course lesson as well. I had to write a part of a story and try to keep the tension going.

Other: We went to the Salt Flats on a family outing. It was cool. I got to practice driving there. We took both our cars and so I drove the automatic one and also practiced on the manual transmission one as well. Manual is a lot harder.

Week 31

L. Arts:
I had a lesson that discussed the importance of tension/resolution. My mom and I discussed the tension/resolution that happened in the Avengers Endgame movie. It had a lot of tension, some of which lasted the entire movie and other tensions that were resolved pretty quickly.
Math:
I learned about expanding squared binomials and euler word problems. I also did the first pretest for the next exam.

Science:
I worked on the house project to go with the lessons on engineering. I am building a house out of small wooden sticks so I had to line them all up on a template and glue them in place. They had to dry overnight. The next step will be assembling it. I will eventually add little lights and stuff to it as I learn about electricity and circuits.
History:
I learned about the gold rush of 1849. I also learned about the early abolitionists. In 1845 there was something called “Bleeding Kansas” when they were having territorial elections and there was a lot of people who crossed the border from Missouri to try and get Kansas made a slave state. The anti-slavery settlers started their own government and so Kansas had two governments for a while.
Welding:
No welding class this week because of the coronavirus shutdown. We had an online assignment to identify about 80 tools from pictures. I did pretty well but he wants us to try and get 100 so I will take it again.

Drone:
Canvas class. I went to take my photos for my next assignment. I uploaded the photos to my computer so next week I will make the video.

Sports Conditioning (PE):
No class this week but for exercises I went on three bikes rides and two hikes. I also played basketball in the driveway and jumped on the trampoline. We did have an assignment to write a one page paper on the relationship between body composition, nutrition, and exercise, so I did that and turned it in.

Week 30

Science: Built a simple circuit with some light bulbs. Also it used 2 AA batteries. We also went to the aquarium which was really cool.

Math: Finding parallel and perpendicular lines from equations. I also took the next quiz.

Sports conditioning: We played ultimate Frisbee on Friday. We just lifted and ran on the other days

Welding: I finished all my assignments for this term. I'll start looking for final project once school starts up again.

Drone:did my landscape shots. Next I will attempt some close ups and other shots.

Language arts: besides reading, I didn’t do language arts this week. I only had two days at home but they were both pretty full of other lessons/activities.

History: Learned about some early states' attempts at utopian governments. Also about the great awakening to the abolition movement.

I got my driver's permit this week and Dad took me out to practice driving once already

Week 29

Language Arts: Writing lesson was about how writing is about resolution of tension. The other lesson was about using detail to describe things and create a picture. I described my new metal water bottle.

Science: I did the unit exam. I got an A. I learned about the Wright Brothers and learned how rudders work. I added one to my glider. A rudder directs the air so the plane can turn.

Sports Conditioning: We played Ultimate Frisbee one day. We also ran a mile and a half.

Drone: Canvas class

History: I learned about the Gold Rush of 1849. It mentioned the invention of Levis. Also the Mexican-American War.

Math: I did the next Quiz. I did lessons 46-48 on solving multivariate equations, solving rational equations, and creating linear equations from two points and from word problems.

Welding: Working on my widget. It’s a practice fabrication. When you do your project, you have to learn a lot of different welds and be able to read a welding sheet that’s kind of like a blueprint. There are different symbols that tell you what type of weld you use.

We went out to Utah Lake.

Week 28

Language arts:writing lesson was on getting ideas down before worrying if it sounds good. Its useful to write down all of the idea keywords on a subject first before you worry about getting them in a good order.

Science:learned about ailerons on planes and how they work. Put some on my glider to demonstrate them.

Sports conditioning: just did some running and lifting. I got injured playing basketball with some guys at church this week. I jammed my thumb really badly. It is slowly getting better but it has been a real pain because it is my right hand. .

Drone: took drone pictures. Also made my slide show.

History: learned more about how life was for slaves. And how there were some attempts to fight back but most just made life worse for them.

Math:did conversion problems. Also did scientific notation.

Welding: Passed off my round tube butt joint. Wanting to make a Thor hammer for my final project.

Other: We went on a Leap Day Adventure to Moab, Utah. We stayed in an AirBnB and saw petroglyphs and hiked to Corona Arch. We got some fun souvenirs, too. I got a small multitool that can fit easily in my pocket.
