Week 23

Language Arts: Read more of 1984. This week's writing lesson was about punctuation and how it is largely about pauses and inflection.

Science: still learning about levers and ramps and how a ramp lets you do less work over a greater distance. The amount of work still says the same though.

Math: did more problems with exponents and fractions. Took the next quiz.

Drone: Canvas Course

Welding: starting my fab welds soon. Looked up some more possible projects.

Sports conditioning:just regular stuff. Had a basketball game on Wednesday. We ended up losing by just one point.

History: learned about the American Revolution, once the Declaration of Independence was signed they still had to win a war against Great Britain. After 7 years of war American finally won and had true freedom from their previous ruler.

Did I already share this picture of my cat on the laptop/batteries? He's really
good at getting in the way.

Week 22

Science: Learned about levers and how they can give a mechanical advantage depending on where the fulcrum is. Also how there are the classes of levers 1st class is like scissors. 2nd class levers are like nut crackers. 3rd class levers are like tweezers.

Math: Learned about operations with whole numbers and exponents. Learned how if you a 6 to the 3rd power on top of the fraction line and 6 to the 2nd on the bottom you can cancel them out to get 6 to the 1st power which is just 6.

Language arts: This week's lesson was about how language is intuitive and how it the only thing we keep learning about after we know how to use it. Also still reading 1984 I'm on chapter 4 or 5 I believe.

Welding: Trying to figure out my final project. I need to pick a couple things to work on and find out roughly the cost. I'm also working on my plasma cutting and then I will do my fab welds.

Drone: Took a quiz on fpv goggles and did research on how the worked. Next thing I need to do is build a race course and fly through it.

Sports conditioning: We did the regular stuff including running & weights. We had two games this week.

History: Read about the declaration of independence. It was drafted by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.

Week 21

Language Arts: I started reading 1984 by George Orwell. I did more Writing Lessons. The goal was to write a series of okay sentences and not worry about making them great. I wrote a description of the Arizona drink can that was on the table.

Math: I did a lesson. I also had a quiz this week. The lesson was on proportions especially in word problems and the different way those can be written.

Science: I did an experiment to look at the density of different liquids. I used my homemade hydrometer as well as floating an egg in each of the solutions. The liquids were water, salt water, sugar water, and corn syrup.

Welding; We took notes on safety for our test. We also looked at gross pictures from when people didn’t follow the safety requirements.

Sports Conditioning: It is a new semester so we mostly just introduced all of the new people to the equipment and everything. Didn’t really do any training. But I had practice or a game everyday, including Saturday. On Monday the team we were supposed to play against never showed up so we didn’t have that game.

Drone: Canvas class.

Other: I had my birthday over the break. My best friend Heber and I went to the new Star Wars movie and my dad took us go cart racing and out for sushi for lunch. It was a really fun day.

Weeks 18-20

Language Arts: Started The Writing Course and listened to the first lesson. The lesson talked about how everything is hard until we know how but knowing how makes it easy.

Math: I did the quarterly exam. I missed two so I got a 90-something. I also did the next lesson.

History: I learned about the 7 Years War which actually lasted about 9 years. But in the colonies the fighting lasted 7 years, so I think that’s why it is called that. It’s also called the French and Indian War. Learned about the Great Awakening as well. People looked to their understanding of natural law to understand humans. Also a lot of people got a lot more religious.

Science:I made a mini steamboat that really worked. It involved cutting metal so there were a lot of safety precautions to follow. In the construction of the steamboat, the book pointed out things that were relevant that I’ve learned about, like how sanding the metal helps the glue stick better because of friction. Sanding the metal gives the glue more spots to stick to.

Welding: I finished my butt joint. I started flux welding.

Sports Conditioning: The classes this week were just weight lifting. I had games on Monday and Saturday. We lost both of them but we played a lot better on the Saturday game than we had for the other games, so I think we are starting to find our groove as a team a little bit.

Drone: Canvas class.

A video of my steamboat in the sink. I later put it in the tub and it ran even
better, but the video is too long to post here.

Time out huddle with the team
